Everybody agrees that there are some holes in WWE’s main event picture. WWE has its biggest and most athletic roster ever and yet we have few main event stars. We’re forced to continually see John Cena and Randy Orton as the top stars and in every main event. Due to the lack of main event stars, WWE has had to bring back former main event talents such as The Rock, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, and Hulk Hogan. With the recent injuries of Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns and the unexpected departure of CM Punk, WWE is in search of their next big stars. It looks like Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are well on their way to main event status. But I believe there are five other WWE wrestlers currently on the roster who are ready to be main event players right now:
1. Big E

The former NXT Champion made his main roster debut in December of 2012. Since then he’s been Dolph Ziggler’s muscle, won and lost the Intercontinental title, and failed to defend America against Rusev. Big E is not being utilized to his potential.
How To Get To The Main Event
The main reason I think Big E hasn’t risen quickly is because he has not been able to use his definitive “five count” calling card that got him over in NXT. Big E would demand referees to count to five instead of three. The NXT fans ate it up! They chanted five as he made his way down to the ring and they counted along with the referee. If Big E was allowed to use his “five count” on RAW and Smackdown, WWE fans would be excited to see his matches. Without it, Big E will continue to struggle.
2. Sheamus

The Celtic Warrior is one of the most popular superstars, a former WWE, and World Heavyweight Champion. Despite holding two most prestigious titles in WWE history, Sheamus has struggled to maintain main event status.
How To Get To The Main Event
To get Sheamus back to the main event I would book him as a heel. I would have him drop the United States championship to Rusev. Then the next night I would have him come out and blame the fans for his loss and say he was truly disgusted being the United States champion and representing America. Aligning him with the Authority as their new muscle would give him more heat. Let’s face it, Corporate Kane is not doing a great job of protecting members of The Authority. Having Sheamus fighting off John Cena, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns for the Authority would position him for main event matches.
3. Cesaro

The King of Swing has continued to shock the wrestling world with his Hercules like strength. Winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30 should have been Cesaro’s launching pad in the main event scene in 2014. Instead he has had meaningless feuds with Rob Van Dam, Jack Swagger, and Sheamus that didn’t do much but provide great matches.
How To Get To The Main Event
After WrestleMania 30, I would have booked Cesaro as a fan favorite and had him face off against the Authority. I believe there’s money with Cesaro as a fan favorite and would be the start of Cesaro in the main event. A showdown between Cesaro and Brock Lesnar is the ticket.
4. Dolph Ziggler

He’s here to show the world and that’s exactly what Dolph Ziggler does every night. He steals the show and if you’re not careful he’ll steal your girlfriend too. Dolph is one of the best performers on today’s roster, but he has yet to achieve main event glory. Dolph was there when he won Money in the Bank and cashed in on Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship. Dolph had won the second most prestigious title and looked like he was in for one hell of a run until he suffered a concussion. He wasn’t stripped of the title, but lost it in first defense after he was cleared to compete. That loss sent Dolph stumbling back down to mid card status.
How To Get To The Main Event
Dolph is now the Intercontinental Champion which could be used to help move him up the card. With Brock Lesnar holding the WWE title and not being on every RAW and only select Pay per Views, there is room for the Intercontinental title to become a top title again. I would have Randy Orton challenge Dolph for the Championship. With the 12 time WWE Champion going after the Intercontinental title that puts Dolph and IC title in main event matches.
5.Ryback

Feed me more! Feed me more! Feed me more! Remember when the whole crowd would chant that as Ryback got ready to deliver the Meat Hook Clothesline? I do! Ryback blazed on to WWE with a 38 match winning streak. John Cena endorsed Ryback and allowed him to challenge CM Punk for the WWE Championship match in Hell in a Cell in 2012. Now, I’m a big CM Punk fan, but this was the opportunity to crown Ryback as the next “it” guy. He was undefeated, the crowd loved him, and he was endorsed by the number one guy in the company. With all that he should have ended CM Punk’s title reign and became WWE Champion, but as we all know that did not happen. Ryback would go on to being the first victim of the Shield which cost him two opportunities at being WWE Champion. At WrestleMania 29 Ryback squared off against the World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry. I thought this was Ryback’s moment. He’ll defeat Henry and be on track to win the WWE Championship. But that didn’t happen. Ryback lost, which lead him to turn heel and feud with John Cena and CM Punk. After Ryback lost both of those feuds he began to team with Curtis Axel which lead him to be stuck in mid card limbo.
How To Get To The Main Event
Recently Ryback got injured and is expected to be out for several months. As horrible as it sounds I think that was great for Ryback’s career. Once he’s cleared to return he should come back as a babyface and fight his way back to the top. Maybe even being the one to beat the one in twenty one in one, Brock Lesnar.
I agree with all your picks.
