AEW’s second annual “Dynasty” show aired on PPV with, for the second year in a row, Swerve Strickland challenging for the Men’s World Championship in the main event. He was looking to repeat last year’s victory, and to conclude the controversial reign of AEW’s franchise player, Jon Moxley.

Pre-Show

Nick Wayne and Cru (Lio Rush & Action Andretti) opened the show against Top Flight and AR Fox. Wayne was supported by The Patriarchy although Christian Cage is still absent.

The fans were thoroughly behind Top Flight and AR Fox as the slow tag work quickly gave way to a fireworks show of acrobatics and strikes. After a springboard seated Spanish Fly by Fox, interference by the Patriarchy gave Nick Wayne the chance to steal the win. He hit Wayne’s World for the three, furthering the story that he is thriving without Christian.

Next was Max Caster’s Open Challenge. Caster continues to be loveably hateable in his new role. Fans improbably sang along to his obnoxious chant, prompting him to chastise the crowd for not getting the inflection right. This set the stage for a returning Anthony Bowens, escorted by Billy Gunn, with a new theme (“Underground” by Jane’s Addiction). He quickly dispatched Castor with 3 strikes, a Fame-asser, and a brutal Rolling Elbow. The ‘Pride of AEW’ looked like a star.

Main Card

An opening video set the stage for the matches to come.

Will Ospreay vs Kevin Knight kicked off the main card in an Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal match.

These two had a fantastic match. Knight matched Ospreay early in tests of talent, leading to Ospreay uncharacteristically falling back on his veteran experience in order to gain an advantage. Ospreay tried a Styles Clash, Os-Cutter, and finally the Hidden Blade before Knight stopped kicking out.

Next up, Big Bill and Bryan Keith took on the Hurt Syndicate. Bill cleaned house early before it moved into more of a ‘hoss off”. Late in the match and outside the ring, MJF appeared among the fans and KO’d Bill with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. A disappointed Lashley and Benjamin none-the-less took the opportunity to German suplex Keith and cut him in half with a spear for the win.

Julia Hart faced Mercedes Moné in an Owen Quarterfinal contest. Both wrestlers have presence and great entrances.

Julia was faster and able to avoid and reverse Mercedes, but Mercedes remained in control throughout the contest. The match showcased Julia’s resilience and the crowd ate up her nearfalls. It ended with a battle of submissions, leading to Mercedes switching to a Seatbelt-like pin and escaping with the victory. Another great Owen match.

Trios Championship action followed as Rated FTR faced current champs The Death Riders. Fans chanted Cope’s lyrics as he entered. Some fans may have cooled on all six of these wrestlers, but they certainly got the live audience into this match. The finale saw Yuta suckering Cope into Dax before finishing the latter with a Busaiku Knee.

After the match, Dax turned on the man formerly known as Edge. Cash initially shoved his partner to the ground, but seconds later joined in on it too. They hit the Shatter Machine and multiple con-chair-tos, leading to Cope being stretchered out. A strange, if not memorable ending.

A short video aired, showing Toni Storm preparing for her match, mimicking the hometown Rocky films.

Taking on Megan Bayne (w/Penelope Ford), Champion Toni Storm (w/Luther) got the crowd chanting in the European-style that we’ve recently seen during WWE’s recent tour.

This had an old-school vibe of a brave underdog champion taking on an Andre-like monster. Stronger, faster, taller, and nigh-invulnerable, Bayne was only defeated when her finisher was reversed by Toni into a small package. Toni continues to be undeniable in this role, and everyone involved put in great work.

Another Owen quarterfinal, this time Kyle Fletcher taking on Mark Briscoe. The bar was set high for these Owen matches tonight, and these two worked hard to keep it going.

The match started with Fletcher delivering a dive before the bell followed by a Helluva Kick. A lively match with the polished and vicious Fletcher battering the unorthodox Briscoe, who fought back with heart. In the end, two Helluva Kicks and a top rope brainbuster to the turnbuckle got Fletcher a spot in the semifinals.

Chris Jericho put the ROH Championship on the line versus Bandido, who put up his mask. Jericho started with an ambush Codebreaker for two. It went back and forth from there.

Bandido’s eye-popping delayed vertical suplex impressively held Jericho up for ten seconds, then Bandido encouraged the crowd to keep chanting as he held it through several more counts of ten.

The ending saw outside interference distracting the ref, allowing Jericho to cheat with his bat to win. Then Bandido’s family showed the refs where Jericho was hiding his bat and uncharacteristically we saw a restart of the match. Bandido caught a distracted Jericho with a finishing series ending in the 21 Plex. Jericho was protected an absurd amount in this.

No time limit, no interference was the game as TNT Champion Daniel Garcia took on Adam Cole for the third time in short succession. This was Garcia’s first PPV Title Defense since he won the belt last November at Full Gear and his first main card pay-per-view appearance in that same length of time.

This match focused around Adam Cole’s early match ankle injury and Garcia’s willingness to capitalize on it. The wounded Cole still pulled out the victory. It’s hard to see where Garcia goes from here.

Ricochet, ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey (in Chrono Trigger cosplay), and Kenny Omega (in his NJPW Final Fantasy villain form) were up next in a triple threat with the International Championship on the line. The expectations for this were sky high, and all three rose to the occasion. This is a match worth finding. Ricochet continues to make viral memes in nearly every outing.

It ended with Omega delivering a second rope One Winged Angel to Ricochet as Bailey fell and got tied up in a tree of woe on the same corner. After the match, Kazuchika Okada returned to stand face to face with Omega, continuing to foreshadow their rumored All In match.

In the main event, Swerve Strickland entered in an outfit inspired by Static Shock. It was specifically a version referred to as Static’s ‘run it back’ outfit by the artist, a fitting reference for a match about attempting to repeat last year’s championship win. He faced Jon Moxley, leader of the Death Riders, for the Men’s World Championship.

Moxley had the slight strength and size advantage, Swerve had speed and technique. It went through all the standard Moxley and Swerve things (brawling on the outside, blood, interference by Marina).

The ending was an everything bagel, seeing Nana, Marina, a Ladder, Hangman, The Death Riders, The Opps, and eventually The Young Bucks all show up. An EVP Trigger allowed Moxley to extend his reign.

A great show with a miss here or there and a WWE Bloodline-era ending. Worth watching.

AEW TV and PPV Notes

The Finals of the Owen Hart Cup are starting to take shape. Will Ospreay will face the winner of Adam Page and Kyle Fletcher, which will take place in one of Page’s home markets in Norfolk, Virginia whilst Mercedes Mone will face either Kris Statlander or Jamie Hayter. The finals will take place at Double or Nothing, giving both matches time to build beforehand.

Ospreay faced Kevin Knight after a hand injury to Jay White cut off the planned First Round matchup. The result remained the same regardless of the change. White is believed to have a broken hand that has required surgery. He isn’t expected to be a long term absentee.

The match order for the show was changed multiple times throughout the day, with Ospreay and Knight only finding out they were opening shortly before they were due to go out, according to the Wrestling Observer.

Swerve Strickland and Booker T have continued to clash over the issue of Black representation in WWE and wrestling as a whole following Strickland’s interview with DJ Vlad in the run up to Dynasty.

In a promo following the Dynasty main event, Strickland said the following:

This was the follow up to a number of outlets picking up Strickland’s comments in the interview on how Booker T was not treated fairly, particularly during 2003-2005 in WWE, in particular to a Vince McMahon skit in 2025 where McMahon addressed Booker T in a racially derogatory manner.

The NXT announcer gave a long reply on his “Hall of Fame Podcast” where he appeared to chastise Swerve for appearing with the controversial interviewer before addressing the segment that had been used when discussing the talking point.

“ I told Swerve Strickland to his face how disappointed I am in him as a young brother because all I did for Swerve Strickland was put him over and put him on a pedestal as being one of the best out there, [saying] that he deserves to be the AEW Champion.

For him to say something like that about me — I don’t know if these guys think racism stopped in 1990 when I got in the business, but it didn’t. You may not hear about a lot of racial issues with Booker T because I handled racial issues handfirst. I opened doors, I broke down barriers for people like Swerve Strickland. Swerve Strickland would perhaps not even be here if it wasn’t for me. I have to apologize for nothing that I’ve done in this business because I’ve gone out there and I have literally represented in the ring and out of the ring from day one all the way to this day in 2025.”

“You speak on Vince McMahon and him saying the N- word, you want me to be angry black man in the company. You want me to not open doors and make spaces for people like you, that’s what you want me to do. Swerve Strickland, I hope you’re never gonna be in the movies, I hope you’re never gonna be on a movie set because you might hear somebody say the n word and if you’ve got a problem with it, they’re gonna tell your ass to get the hell out of here, this is a movie, alright?

I’m upset because more importantly I’m disappointed in Swerve Strickland because of what I told him — I’ll repeat it just like I repeated it to him, you got played. You got played bro. You got played. You let that man play you and pitch you against me and me against you. I don’t know how many stories you’ve ever heard about that on Vlad TV, but there’s many of them. There’s many stories out there about the black man against the black man because Vlad is pitting them against each other. I don’t know how many people you know that have been locked up from the federal perspective by going on Vlad TV. I don’t know what the hell you’re doing on Vlad TV first of all. What have you done to be on Vlad TV? That’s just my opinion on that. As far as Swerve Strickland — and me having the energy, the verossity, I got all that. I’m still six foot three inches tall, two hundred and thirty pounds of stomping, grave damn digging, destruction Jack.”

He continued on:

“I hear people like Swerve Strickland talk about there’s not a lot of black representation on the PLEs these days. Well damn it, I didn’t have to worry about that in my day, I was on all of them. I was on all of the pay-per-views, alright? I was main eventing some of them as well. I don’t know what the hell he is talking about as far as that goes.

Maybe it’s a drop-off as far as talent, maybe guys need to work up to my level and really think about themselves in a position and say, ‘Hey man, let’s forget about this black thing and let’s throw it all in and see how good we are.’ Let’s do it the way I did, alright? We don’t gotta start nothing on social media or anything like that, let’s just see how good we are. I could have sank all the way to the bottom in WWE just like so many others did.

More importantly, most of those guys are white guys, I’m just saying. It’s about how talented I was. As far as he is, it’s about how talented he is. It’s about how talented every other black person that gets what they get — don’t just throw a tag on them because they’re black. It’s ridiculous. For him to speak on something like that and make it about that because he had a bad experience, bro, that’s like painting everybody the same way. I don’t put myself in the category with everybody else, I just don’t.”

The issue of black representation, particularly in WWE over recent years, is a very real one that goes beyond any tribalistic lines and requires much further discussion.

Injuries have reared their ugly head across AEW over the past few weeks.

PAC had an MRI following an ankle injury after a buckle bomb in his match with Swerve Strickland on 10/04. PWInsider reported that he was spotted leaving the arena on crutches after the show’s completion.

PAC was replaced in the Trios World Title match on 16/04 by Jon Moxley rather then the belts being forced to be vacated as they were for the Bang Bang Gang when Jay White was injured last summer.

Hook was sick in the ring on the same show, there were no further details on his condition after the trios match but it was enough for him to be replaced on the 17/04 Boston show, with Powerhouse Hobbs capturing a Trios Title in his place as part of the OPPS.

Orange Cassidy is expected to miss a substantial amount of time after suffering a suspected pec injury during the International Championship Eliminator match on the 19/03 episode of Dynamite.

Mark Davis will only be out for 4-8 weeks with injury, according to Fightful, for the injury he sustained in the Powerhouse Hobbs match that was later confirmed to be a broken foot.

Brian Cage has undergone knee surgery for the injury that he sustained in an independant match with Chris Masters on March 20th. Cage and tag partner Lance Archer were originally scheduled to face the Hurt Syndicate at Dynasty.

Feedback from inside the company matched a large part of the fanbase post the PPV, with Sean Ross Sapp reporting that a number of people in AEW also feel that the heat from the Death Riders story is going onto the company rather than Moxley the character.

AEW have moved to defend their lead story, using individual viewership metrics that show no definitive argument for the Death Rider program being a business driver. Tony Khan has also discussed his relationship with fan feedback during a series of interviews over the last week, adding emphasis that the issue of fan discontent has been a talking point over the past few months that they cannot just ignore.

The Young Bucks’ return at Dynasty saw them arrive at the building just after 10pm. They were not kept secret in regards to their presence but news did not leak of their involvement with the end of the PPV main event. The Bucks will return to AEW in ring action in New Orleans this coming week against Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight and are currently scheduled for a tag match on May’s “Double or Nothing” PPV.

Tony Khan revealed another belt to add to his collection, with the RoH Women’s Pure Title being revealed at last Saturday’s Collision. The first holder will be decided at “Supercard of Honor” at the start of May.

Swerve Strickland rang the bell at the 76ers Basketball game the night before the Dynasty PPV in Philadelphia against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Bryan Danielson was backstage at Dynasty and continues to support with the creative for both Dynamite and Collision.

Josh Lamberger, otherwise known as Josh Matthews, worked backstage at the show. He is the husband of Madison Rayne. Scott Antol, known in WCW as Scotty Riggs, was also backstage at the show.

Shelton Benjamin missed the 02/04 taping due to travel issues. Benjamin arrived at 11pm after a disastrous 15 hour travel day.

AEW will broadcast live from Arena Mexico in Mexico City on June 18th as Dynamite becomes “AEW Grand Slam Mexico”. This will be the first live broadcast by a US company from Mexico in 14 years and the first US company to ever tape at the CMLL owned building. This is one location which they have gotten to ahead of WWE, in a market which Nick Khan highlighted earlier in the week is one that they are targeting for growth.

Tickets go on sale on the 26th April, with the poster featuring Mistico and Mascara Dorada from CMLL, former AAA Champion Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay as well as Hologram and Komander, who were very well received when they wrestled members of Sky Team in the same building a few weeks ago.

The announcement was given to Fox Sports Mexico, who will air the episode live. The outlet managed to create a little confusion though, announcing that the show would emanate from “Arena Ciudad de México”, which is the building run often by AAA.

AEW and RoH talent will take part in the Tuesday night Arena Mexico show whilst a number will also stay for Friday’s Fantasticamania event, where they will be guests in a similar way to how CMLL wrestlers are for Forbidden Door.

Luchablog reports that RUSH, Dralistico, Beast Mortos and Bandido will all be unable to work any of these shows at the current time due to previous political history with CMLL.

Also on sale that week will be Forbidden Door in London on August 24th. The largest London indoor arena, the O2, will host the PPV where New Japan names will be part of the AEW show. This will include Hiroshi Tanahashi, in what will be one of his final UK appearances before his retirement.

The on sale of this show had been delayed due to WWE imposing a window on the venue where other wrestling shows could not be promoted until 15 days after their TV tapings were completed at the beginning of the month.

WWE have announced a string of UK house shows and TV tapings around the Forbidden Door show that are yet to go on sale, it would be highly unsurprising if these dates were put on sale on the exact same week. Clash in Paris, a stadium event easily reached from large parts of Europe and the UK, will go on sale the week before, despite being announced months previously.

AEW will also tape their TV at the Hydro in Glasgow on August 20th, marking the Scottish debut of the promotion.

The June 4th edition of Dynamite from Denver, Colorado will be the first of two 4 hour live tapings, as first reported by Andrew Zarian. Dynamite and Collision will air in a single block in order to clear Saturday night for the NHL Playoffs on TNT. The evening has been given the “Fyter Fest” branding and will begin at 6pm local time, making it much more manageable for the live audience in attendance than an east coast location would.

A second 4 hour block will occur on June 11th from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

The 26/04 Collision we noted last week would start at 8:30pm, will also have an NBA Playoff lead in. The show had been incorrectly listed in some TV guides as having a three hour length; it will remain at the standard 2 hours on this date.

The 03/05 Collision, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, will air on TBS rather than on TNT as TNT will be running an Avengers marathon throughout the day. The Avengers last week gave Collision a Big Bang Theory level lead-in in regards to the key demo.

AEW will run Collision on the 21st and Dynamite on the 25th June from the Showare Center in Kent, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. These are the taping locations for right after the Arena Mexico date. The venue has a setup of around 4,500.

Chris Jericho is taking a period away from the company following the loss of the Ring of Honor World Title to Bandido at Dynasty.

Jericho is now moving on from RoH, according to Fightful, after the finish which somewhat protected him at the PPV. This also likely ends any current hopes of Ring of Honor landing a TV deal to Tony Khan’s liking.

Jericho’s band Fozzy is on tour between the 17th April and the 12th May but had kept most Wednesdays free for potential taping appearances but there is currently no timeframe for his return, with Jericho wanting it to be somewhat of a surprise.

Jericho is in a contract year with the company, is very much respected by staff and talent but has struggled with the crowds over the past 18 months, feeling somewhat stagnant for really the first time during his tenure.

Ric Flair confirmed that he is still employed by AEW when asked in recent interviews if he would be attending Wrestlemania or the WWE Hall of Fame. Dave Meltzer was able to confirm this with the company and also that his deal is not majorly restrictive, despite the impression Flair gave publicly.

Bear Bronson took to X to air his frustrations in not being used since his tag partner in the Iron Savages was released from the company after criminal charges for domestic battery and strangulation were brought.

Bronson wrote how he feels “forgotten and ignored” by the company, as though he was “paying for someone else’s crimes”.

AEW has a mixture of per appearance deals and full time deals, which both have a level of exclusivity. It feels like this is a particular case where something should be worked out with the talent to either use him or allow him to look for a new venture.

The interest in Mariah May’s contract status grew heavily this week after the wrestler posted a picture out of a plane window on Instagram with the words “You can’t make the wrong decision because every decision leads you to where you’re supposed to be.”

Fightful has noted last month that her deal would be potentially up this year but that a number of people in AEW were confident of keeping her, whilst there are people in WWE who expect she will go there.

Sources told Dave Meltzer that May had made it clear prior to Revolution that she would not be signing a new deal with the company and this is the reason behind the Toni Storm match at the PPV being the end of their program as well as her non participation in the Owen Hart Cup.

Khan has removed several wrestlers from TV after they have either declined options or made it clear their intention is to go elsewhere.

May is believed to have always wanted WWE as her final destination, with her time in AEW likely helping the position she could arrive into. Wrestlers who feel this way about WWE are the reason Nick Khan can appear so bullish in interviews over potential acquisitions of talent.

Both AEW and Ryan Nemeth have submitted filings to the Los Angeles Supreme Court to dismiss his lawsuit as the case will move to arbitration.

Nemeth’s lawyer, Mike Caspino, told Post Wrestling that there had been no settlement in this case and that it had been dismissed without prejudice, meaning either side could bring the case back at a later date. The arbitration move mainly comes from clauses in Nemeth’s contract that state that disputes such as this should be dealt with through this legal avenue.

A build with big moments but often low energy leads into WWE’s “Wrestlemania” events this week, as the promotion’s flagship shows provide the centrepiece for a week of activities in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event, a clash between the current lead babyface in Cody Rhodes, and the top guy for the previous two decades in John Cena, appeared to gain real momentum after Cena turned heel at the “Elimination Chamber” event in Toronto but has lost steam through a combination of middling promos and the availability of the Hollywood actor.

Cena and Rhodes will both appear on Friday’s Smackdown show, with it being their first interactions since Raw in London at the turn of the month.

The other noticeable omission has been the Rock. The catalyst of this current story and for much of the energy of last year’s build, Dwayne Johnson has been completely uninvolved since the Chamber show, with not even a passing mention by the main eventers in his absence. The Rock is not advertised in any way at this point but it still feels highly likely that he will turn up on Sunday night in some capacity.

The Night 1 show will not be headlined by a title match but instead by Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and CM Punk, seemingly duelling it out for the services of Paul Heyman, as Punk’s quest for the Wrestlemania main event is folded away in the easiest manageable way by WWE.

Jey Uso vs Gunther is expected to open Night 1 whilst the matchup between Naomi and Jade Cargill will be the first non title women’s single match since Wrestlemania 22, where Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson took part in a “Playboy Pillow Fight.”
The Drew McIntyre vs Damien Priest has now had a street fight stipulation added to it as well.

A match which may have not garnered as much attention a few weeks ago is the WWE Women’s Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton. Signs of discontent were already apparent after an interview segment a few weeks back had seen Charlotte demolish her opponent in a destructive manner in the side by side before things really came to a head on the 04/04 Smackdown.

The in ring promo, with Wade Barrett present to moderate, started along agreed lines before it swiftly fell apart. Charlotte became rattled by the Chicago crowd, fell into mimicking her opponent’s voice before seemingly abandoning the promo half way through.

Stratton responded by highlighting how Flair is “0-3” in successful marriages before rolling out of the ring whilst Charlotte began shouting about how Stratton’s off screen boyfriend Kaiser was in her DMs. The later part of promo exchanges were removed from social media clips and replays by WWE.

Barrett can also be seen attempting to get between the women on 2 separate occasions, as though to ensure it did not escalate any further.

Two female WWE talents told Fightful that Tiffany had to “fight back” during the promo exchange, otherwise she would have gotten “run over.” Flair appears to be receiving the majority of the blame for the breakdown of the segment.

Fightful also reported that “Charlotte did not appear to be pleased” in the aftermath but there are no reports of any follow up confrontations.

By Thursday last week the incident had become part of the kayfabe, with Charlotte posting on X;

“After being blindsided by my personal trauma on live television, my character said something on air that was not true, and I’d like to take this opportunity to clear the air. I should NEVER have called the Chicago fans smart. I sincerely apologise.”

One man currently without an opponent for Wrestlemania is Randy Orton, after Kevin Owens was forced to withdraw from the match following diagnosis of a serious neck injury.

Owens is believed to have had surgery this past week and will be out for a minimum of 6-12 months depending on which invasive procedure was required. He announced the injury on the 04/04 edition of Smackdown in Outer Chicago after news of an undisclosed injury had been leaked to outlet PWN the day before.

Wrestlemania Lineups:

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale will once again take place on the final Smackdown before the weekend. Neither Women’s mid card titles have booked matches at Wrestlemania whilst the WWE Tag Team Title match between the Street Profits and the Motor City Machine Guns has also been relegated to the Friday night.

NXT’s “Stand and Deliver” show matches the WWE main cards of the weekend by having a flurry of multiman matches as part of proceedings. Booker Shawn Michaels was much more open about the reasoning then some of his counterparts, stating that this was purely to get as many people on the show as possible.

Perhaps the most peculiar is the presence of the Women’s North American Title ladder match, which arrived after NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer was forced to vacate her secondary belt in bizarre fashion by NXT General Manager Ava.

Vaquer had defeated Guilia in a double gold match in New York, with a number of outlets citing a potential injury or visa issue as the reason behind the decision. Perhaps even more strangely, Guilia has returned to action in under a month since that decision was made and will be part of a NXT Women’s Title 4 way on this card.

Ricky Saints won the Men’s North American Championship two weeks ago on NXT television and will face Ethan Page on this weekend’s show. Whilst an immediate title win is a show of faith in the recent arrival, it can also be a burden in regards to a swift move to the main roster. It is hard to argue that anything since he has arrived in NXT would constitute the need for an immediate call up.

NXT will begin their live show at 9am PT on Saturday to allow attendees to make it to Wrestlemania in plenty of time.

Tonight’s Hall of Fame ceremony, headlined by Paul “Triple H” Levesque, will see Michelle McCool inducted by the Undertaker, Lex Luger by DDP, the Bret Hart- Stone Cold match from Wrestlemania 13 by CM Punk and an induction of the Natural Disasters. Levesque will be inducted by Shawn Michaels, in a reversal of roles from the Wrestlemania 27 ceremony in Atlanta.

Proceedings will begin at 10pm local time, 1am ET, with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee acting as hosts.

Kamala, Ivan Koloff and Dory Funk Sr. will all be inducted into the Legends wing.

WWE debuted on Netflix in India on April 1st but are yet to see any gains in worldwide viewership from the sizable market. India is believed to have around 12 million subscribers to the service, much less than the reach WWE had with previous Indian partners Sony.

Nick Khan has stated that one of Netflix’s key goals for their partnership with WWE is to grow the service in the country that accounts for a heavy percentage of Youtube consumption of pro wrestling content.

Tony Hinchcliffe provided commentary on the 07/04 Raw show and generally was not very funny. Comedian Bert Kreischer was also featured throughout the show, in another collaborative promotion with Netflix.

Triple H had noted in an interview last week that Netflix has “no input” in regards to WWE creative but it does now have an unmistakable presence across these shows in other ways.

The finish to the Chelsea Green/ Zelina Vega match on last week’s TV was reported by Fightful as being unplanned. The two ended up on the outside in the first minute of their bout on last week’s Smackdown, with Green unable to make it back in the ring before the 10 count.

Linda McMahon, Vince McMahon and WWE have all moved to dismiss the Ring Boys Lawsuit brought in Maryland, with most of the grounds for dismissal centering around the state not having jurisdiction over any of the defendants.

Linda McMahon was first to file, arguing that she has no significant connection to the state of Maryland outside of a short term licence to host wrestling events in 2004 and a property rental between 1970 and 1972 and, therefore, does not believe that the state should have any jurisdiction over her.

The current member of the Trump government also claims that “until this lawsuit, I was unaware of their allegations against me or anyone else named in the complaint” which is pretty unbelievable considering her being in the audience for TV shows where Vince McMahon answered questions on the behaviour of Mel Phillips.

Her attempt to dismiss also revealed that she has been made aware of the identities of the plaintiffs, of which she claims she has never met or communicated with.

The decision for the defendants to be given details of the identities of the 5 Ring Boys was made the previous week by the judge and is not an unusual occurrence in cases such as this. Defendants are not allowed to share these details, nor does it mean they need to be made public.

WWE and Vince McMahon also moved to dismiss the suit the next day, with their main complaint also being that they should not be under the jurisdiction of Maryland.

McMahon’s lawyers also deny that he had any knowledge of these acts taking place or involvement in the abuse and point to him being a long term resident of Connecticut as a reason not to have to answer to the Federal Court of the state.

WWE, represented by the Paul Weiss firm, argue that the current entity is not the same company as the previous WWF alliteration and that the complaint did not allege “successor liability” in the way required for the current WWE or TKO to be answerable in this case. WWE maintains that they are not incorporated with Maryland or operate there and note that two of the plaintiffs in this case are not alleging abuse that took place in Maryland.

The lawsuit was brought in Maryland due to the existence of the 2023 “Child Victims Act” which allows victims of sexual offenses to sue those who were responsible for the abuse or whose negligence allowed for it to occur without having to consider the statute of limitations which prevents cases of a historic nature being brought in other states.

The Athletic and the New York Times ran a joint story over how a Mississippi college student has had her life affected because of public comments by Pat McAfee.

Freshman Mary Kate Cornett was the centre of a rumour storm on campus that alleged she had slept with her boyfriend’s father. These rumours went national after McAfee and other outlets such as Barstool brought them up on live shows.

This led to fears for Cornett’s safety, with campus police informing her she was a target before she was moved to emergency accomodation and online tutoring only. Her phone number was also posted on the internet, leading to further abuse which she lists to be degrading in nature. The young student says that she intends to sue McAfee and ESPN in order to have people accountable for the damage it has done to her life.

The question of accountability for someone like McAfee has become a pertinent one in recent years, with each controversial statement typically followed by a refusal to walk back and a dismissal in regards of his words having any substantial impact.

WWE have signed a number of corporate deals over the last week, including with Minute Maid, Getty Images, Clash of Clans and Drumstick ice cream.

Becky Lynch appeared at an improv show in Los Angeles last weekend and when asked about her status quipped, “Look, I’m not wrestling anymore, maybe one day.” Lynch is under contract with WWE but still is awaiting on creative that both sides can agree upon.

Rusev is expected to re-debut with the company imminently. The Bulgarian wrestler was recently spotted at WWE Headquarters and has made no secret of his wish to return to the company whilst he was employed by AEW before his release in February.

Kairi Sane took to social media to explain that her absence from WWE television is due to ligament damage in one of her thumbs that required surgery. Sane has been away since December last year but said her recovery is going well.

Cody Rhodes noted in an interview that Dwayne Johnson has 2 matches remaining on his current WWE contract. Rhodes had also now passed the year milestone on his current WWE Championship reign.

John Cena, Cody Rhodes, Gunther, CM Punk, Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair and Penta are all advertised for the “Clash in Paris” show on August 31st in the French capital. Tickets for the show go on sale next week, a week before AEW’s “Forbidden Door” show begins their own ticket sales.

The WWE ID Titles have had a new stipulation added to them, with Independent talent able to “earn” a WWE ID contract if they are able to capture a title. This will allow WWE to create “moments” on shows with talent they have signed but not previously announced as being under a deal.

Trick Williams will have a guest spot in the season finale of “All American” on the CW Network, which is also the US home of NXT.

John Cena’s “Peacemaker” series will premiere its second season on WBD’s MAX service on August 21st.

The Honky Tonk Man has renewed his Legends deal with WWE, claiming it to be multiple years in length.

TNA television has been building two events simultaneously over the past few weeks, with the TNA+ special of “Unbreakable” on April 17th and the “Rebellion” PPV on April 27th.

“Unbreakable” will feature the final match of the tournament to crown the first TNA International Champion, where the competitors have competed in a series of 3-way matches in order to pick up the new title introduced by on-screen GM Santino Marella on the April 3rd edition of iMPACT! The tournament field for the International belt consists of 8 Americans and 1 Canadian.

AJ Francis confirmed his way into the final three way, defeating Mance Warner and Sami Callihan on April 10th whilst the other two matches, between Zachary Wentz vs. Eric Young vs JDC and Eddie Edwards vs Ace Austin vs. Steve Maclin will take place on the “Unbreakable” show itself. 

Francis was able to advance thanks to a breakdown between rivals Warner and Callihan, who will now face each other in Las Vegas in a Barbed Wire Massacre. Masha Slamovich will tag with Joe Hendry vs Tessa Blanchard and Frankie Kazarian in a preview of both Rebellion World Title matches, whilst Mike Santana will team with the Hardys to take on Mustafa Ali and the Nemeth Bros.

April 17th has also been designated “Chris Bey All Day” with a series of events, including a breakfast with the Hardys, raising money for the injured wrestler. Bey will also be appearing at Wrestlecon during Wrestlemania week.

For “Rebellion”, Ethan Page returned on TNA IMPACT on April 3rd, setting up a triple threat with Frankie Kazarian and Champion Joe Hendry for the TNA World Championship. Also set for the card is Tessa Blanchard challenging Masha Slamovich for the Knockouts Title.

Ultimate X will once more decide the X Division Title Champion with Leon Slater, Matt Cardona and the returning El Hijo del Vikingo taking on Champion Moose in the match, whilst the Nemeth Brothers will challenge the Hardys for the TNA Tag Team titles. Mustafa Ali vs Mike Santana has also been announced.

In follow up from the wave of cuts made two weeks ago, Romy Glazer listed on her own website the marketing strategy that the previous team had developed since 2024 that focused on ensuring their content met fans at their expected price point, had more of a focus on the current project rather than the occurrences of the past and using social media sign ups/collaborations with influencers to increase reach and ticket sales.

A key part of the changes was the movement of TNA iMPACT! to a live broadcast on TNA+ as well as on AXS TV, making it more of a global product and increasing live engagements around the content. The company also agreed on a deal with a merchandise company that would allow for rapid turnaround of key items after a viral event on their programming.

Glazer stated that the strategy implementation led to the business achieving “new record-breaking highs”, including a 100% growth rate for TNA+ over the course of the year and an 80% increase in live PPV attendance.

Fightful also released a report that stated that Ariel Scherner had turned down a Joe Hendry appearance on WWE Raw that possibly included a loss to the Miz for the TNA World Champion. WWE used Ethan Page in a similar spot.

The incident is said to have led to WWE souring on Scherner. It is not known if that played any part in his TNA departure.

Gail Kim, who was also released during the structural changes, has announced a signing appearance at next month’s NWA “Crockett Cup” on May 17th.

TNA has announced further dates for this year’s calendar, with “Against All Odds” due to take place in Tempe, Arizona, on Friday, June 6th, with TV tapings scheduled for the same arena the night after. Their arrival into the state will be just days after AEW runs their “Double or Nothing” PPV in Phoenix on Memorial Day weekend. It will be the first visit to Arizona for the promotion since 2013. 

TNA will also run the UPMC Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on June 20th and 21st for TV tapings and return to Canada for “Under Seige” and a set of iMPACT! tapings at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, on the 23rd and 24th May.

Former TNA World Champion, Rich Swann, is now a free agent after his most recent contract with TNA expired this past month. The wrestler held the World Title for six months between October 2020 and April 2021, before losing it to then AEW World Champion Kenny Omega at the “Rebellion” PPV, one of the most successful PPV events in company history. He also held the X Division title and the TNA Digital Media Title during the course of his time with the promotion. 

Congratulations to Steph De Lander and Mance Warner, who announced on social media that they are engaged.

Matt Riddle retained the MLW Heavyweight Championship in Long Beach, California by successfully seeing off 39 other competitors in this year’s “Battle Riot.”

The champion and tag partner Tom Lawlor had been attacked by the newly formed unit of Donovan Dijak and Bishop Dyer earlier on in the night, putting extra pressure on him coming into the multiman bout. He entered at number 25 and somehow found a way to survive up until the announcement of the 40th entrant, even as Dyer and Dijak eliminated Lawlor in the minutes beforehand.

Riddle found himself outnumbered 3 on 1 as Rob Van Dam’s music hit and the arena erupted. Van Dam and Riddle then worked together to eliminate Kruger/allow Dijak and Dyer to eliminate themselves, leaving the temporary allies as the final two.

The last exchanges went by relatively quickly, with Riddle, who was somewhat selling injured ribs from the attack earlier in the night, going for a moonsault from the top rope. Van Dam was able to get out of the way and deliver a rolling thunder before going up to the top rope himself, searching for the 5 Star frog splash. On this occasion, it was Riddle who managed to escape, before using Van Dam’s momentum to throw him over the top rope and retain his Title.

The Battle Riot was an entertaining affair that featured a number of faction rivalries, debuts in the promotion from the likes of Anthony Greene and Shane Haste, Max Kruger arrived with a chainsaw and a successful return for Alex Hammerstone, with the former Battle Riot winner holding out for 35 minutes after having drawn the number 1 entry for the match. There was even time for Matthew Justice to survive elimination by shopping trolley and Paul Walter Hauser to get full colour.

The early part of the match centered around the luchadors, who got most of the strongest reactions outside of Van Dam on this night. The crowd was electric for the likes of Blue Panther and Ultimo Guerrero, even turning on Hechicero (after he had been heavily cheered in the three way match beforehand) when he eliminated Blue Panther.

Earlier on in the card, Mistico vacated the MLW Middleweight Championship due to injury after holding the belt for over a year. Mistico was due to face Templario on this show, with the promotion stating that this match is postponed until a later date. The announcement was made alongside Cesar Duran and Salina De La Renta, with Duran being red misted by Contra’s Ikuro Kwon as soon as he had received the belt back from the former champion. Kwon ended the segment by scampering off with the title.

Templario would still wrestle on the card, gaining a victory over Esfinge and Hechicero, submitting Hechicero in just under 10 minutes. This felt like a standard level lucha three way that had further levels to go to but ended before it could get there. It was clearly a vehicle to get momentum behind Templario but it was Hechicero who was most popular with the crowd.

There were further title developments, with Shoko Nakajima beating Delmi Exo to win the Featherweight Title in a bout that used the size differentiation between the two to form the structure of the match. Delmi used a variety of strength based offense, hoping it would weaken Nakajima enough so that she could hit her with the Delmi Driver. On the final attempt, the “Big Kaiju” was able to counter into a DDT before going to the top rope and delivering a diving senton for the victory.
Austin Aries joined Joe Dombrowski for commentary on the show in a new role for the veteran and a teaser video appeared to illustrate that the Good Brothers would be arriving in the promotion in the near future.

One match that did not occur was a tag title defense involving Kevin Knight and Satoshi Kojima. There was no mention of the match or why it was not happening on the show but Knight was wrestling for AEW on the same night.

The next show for the promotion will be at the Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois on May 10th. The company will also return to Los Angeles in October.

US Independents

This week sees a real flurry of independent shows across Wrestlemania week, as independent and international promotions showcase their products to the local and travelling Las Vegas audience. IWTV, Triller+, Highspots and Youtube will all stream multiple shows live for those unable to attend.

A headline occurrence will be the retirement of Sabu, in a No Ropes Barbed Wire match with Joey Janela at “Joey Janela’s Spring Break”. The match will be Janela’s first since having surgery for an arm injury in February.

The show at 10pm on April 18th will also see a mask vs career match between Atticus Cougar and Fuego del Sol, Violence Is Forever defending their recently won GCW Tag Team titles against Alec Price and a mystery partner, a JCW Championship match where Suzu Suzuki takes on Champion Masha Slamovich, and Zack Sabre Jr. wrestling 1 Called Manders.

The Bloodsport card on April 17th has been completed with a number of match additions. NXT’s Karmen Petrovic will wrestle Maika of Stardom, J.R. Kratos will face Karrion Kross, Shayna Bazler goes up against Konami, Zack Sabre Jr. will wrestle Jonathan Gresham, and Josh Barnett takes on Gabe Kidd.

Guests of honour for the show will be Dan Severn, Dom Frye, Mark Kerr, Butterbean and Tank Abbott.

One person not participating in the show is Big Lou Nixon, who took to X to raise the issue in a statement:

Beyond Wrestling are launching a third weekly “Wrestling Open” series on April 30th, this time emanating out of the Alamo Plaza in San Antonio, Texas.
Wrestlers booked for the original series in Worcester, Massachusetts, this week have been told they will no longer be used for upcoming shows if they cancel their bookings to pick up extra work at AEW’s Collision live show in nearby Boston on Thursday night.

After some confusion over who was responsible for the booking and the subsequent pulling between GCW and Josh Barnett, Barnett contacted Nixon to explain that miscommunication had led to the error.

The wrestler will not be part of the show but has been reimbursed for the date and will still be present in Las Vegas, appearing at Wrestlecon and on GCW’s “Cluster Forever” show.

Walemania X on April 17th will take place at Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas and be broadcast by Netflix.

Minoru Suzuki vs Butterbean can be added to the list of ‘things we never thought we’d see’ after it was announced for the Mark Hitchcock Memorial Show on April 17th. The show will be, once more, broadcast on Highspots TV.

Cole Radrick suffered a torn ACL during a four way tag at GCW’s “No Compadre” show on March 30th. The knee injury sadly required surgery, which was carried out later in the week, with an estimated recovery time of 6 to 9 months. The 27 year old wrestler also suffered a meniscus tear in the same knee.

Radrick and partner Alec Price had been GCW Tag Team Champions going into the weekend but had lost the titles to Violence is Forever the previous night.

Registered sex offender and wrestling trainer Chasyn Rance was arrested in Florida on April 2nd for violating the terms of his registration as a sex offender. The 42 year old was found guilty in July 2021 of sex with a victim under 16 and lewd or lascivious battery.

David Bixenspan, for Babyface vs Heel, reported that the violation came from failure to report a change in vehicle ownership, providing false registration and failing to report details of internet activity.

Rance’s gym is in close proximity to the Performance Center, with a number of WWE talent having trained there despite the head trainer’s status. Booker T defended his recent appearance at the Team Vision Dojo by issuing a statement:

Morley Sports Management were announced as the new majority owners of Ohio Valley Wrestling via a press release on April 7th.

The company has seen more global attention following the release of Netflix series “The Wrestlers” back in 2023 and was previously a WWF/WWE developmental territory, playing a role in the development of talent such as John Cena, Shelton Benjamin and Dave Batista.

Jonathan Gresham announced the launch of Octopus University, a training school that will begin offering classes in May.

Isla Dawn has begun to announce her first independent dates after her WWE release, beginning with an appearance on Northeast Wrestling’s “Wrestling Under the Stars” show at Eastwood Field on July 19th. The standout match attraction so far will be El Hijo del Vikingo taking on Kommander.

ODB will return to the ring for Insane Wrestling Revolution in Monroe, MI on May 2nd and 3rd. The former TNA star will wrestle Jessika Havok on the shows put together by former colleague Rhino, who will also wrestle on the events.

CMLL’s Universal tournament, with much of a different format to previous years, will culminate on 4/25 on the Friday Night show from Arena Mexico.

Mistico hopes that he will be cleared over the next week, after doctors asked him to give his arm a further week before having it assessed again. It is likely better for everyone if he waits until he is ready before returning.

Rocky Romero spoke to Case Lowe of Voices of Wrestling for Q101 in Chicago and noted that Salvador Lutteroth had told him that CMLL have now had 40 straight weeks with 8,000 fans in Arena Mexico, making them easily the 2nd biggest wrestling company for attendance in the world.

This year’s Fantasticamania Mexico show on June 20th will be more than a CMLL/ New Japan affair, with talent from AEW, RoH and RevPro also to be included, as first reported by Luchablog. The headline announcement so far is a six-man tag bout between the Los Ingobernables team of Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and Titán facing off against the United Empire team of Francisco Akira, TJP and Templario. AEW talent will remain in Mexico City after the Dynamite taping on June 18th to participate in the show. This will be Shingo Takagi’s debut in Arena Mexico.

This match was not announced at the same time as the show, perhaps due to contract situations involving New Japan, Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI over the course of the last week.

Templario has now passed 700 days as CMLL World Middleweight Champion. He will be in Japan until April 29th, when he will wrestle El Desperado for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title.

Based on social media posts, it appears that Soberano Jr. has had surgery for an injury that remains undisclosed in its nature.

The 03/05 show, back in Juan de la Barrera Gym in Mexico City, will have a main event of El Hijo del Vikingo & Negro Casas & Pagano vs Alberto El Patron & Sanson & Forastero, but will be sold on the debut of the newest version of La Parka, who will team with Laredo Kid and Octagon Jr. to take on the Tokyo Bad Boys. Rey de Reyes winner Nino Hamburguesa will challenge Mesias for the Latin American Title, whilst needing to keep a watchful eye out for Mr. Iguana, who is being set up to turn heel on his friend in the upcoming months leading up to Triplemania. The charismatic Iguana feels like a natural, comedy babyface, so it feels a strange position to put him in.

Last week’s Wrestling Observer noted that El Hijo del Dr Wagner Jr. is expected to go to WWE in the near future. The promotion plans to continue to use the wrestler for the foreseeable future but will put a limit on his pushes with that detail in mind.

Former wrestler Cuatrero, who has been in jail after being charged with domestic violence against former girlfriend Stephanie Vaquer, did an interview after being spotted at the Juan de la Barrera AAA show two weeks ago.

He stated that he would not be wrestling anytime soon, as his case is still ongoing. He was allowed to leave jail but must not have any contact with Vaquer. He was turned down for release last June before a change in judges in December led to the ruling of his release. Cuatrero insists he is innocent despite details and photos of Vaquer being made public at the time.

Maria del Rosario Cosio was revealed under the mask of Mujer Demonio after losing a mask/hair match, with Lady Apache the wrestler to take the victory.

This was the first of two unmaskings on the night, as El Hijo del Santo would take the mask of Mysterioso in the final bout, winning a ⅔ falls match after the pair suffered losses in a 5-way and in tag competition. Misterioso was revealed as Jose Luis Hurtado Soto, a veteran with 32 years experience in the ring.

A portion of the crowd chanted “fraud” at Santo, believing that the setup had been for a mask match between long-term rival Fuerza Guerrera and himself, before other names were added during the course of the show’s promotion.

The show is said to have had more than 10,000 in attendance for what was announced as Santo’s final match in Mexico City, which was the real draw of the card. He has matches announced for his retirement tour in San Luis Potosí, Guadalajara and in London in the autumn. The Veracruz show has been cancelled with no reasons given.

Santo had hinted at a Tijuana date in interviews after the show and that has now been confirmed to be with The Crash promotion on June 20th.

Santo’s matches last year in London were announced as his last in the country in marketing beforehand, so it is anyone’s guess if these final appearances will be the last in each location or not, especially considering this has been his second “farewell” match in the same venue.

Mask vs Hair:
LA Park eliminated with a win in a 5 Way match
The remaining 4 combatants competed in a tag match, with Fuerza Guerrera and Ultimo Dragon defeating Misterioso and El Hijo del Santo. Santo then took the mask of Misterioso in a singles match.

Galeno del Mal vs Vengador is the first match announced for Riot Lucha’s show on May 17th in Monterey.

Canada

Mystery Wrestling will run on April 27th in Gatineau, Quebec. Dark Order stablemates Evil Uno and John Silver will be on commentary for the event which will stream for free on Twitch.

Darius Martin will be wrestling on the show.

Alpha-1 Wrestling have announced an Omega ladder match for their “Immortal Combat” show on Sunday, May 4th in Hamilton, Ontario. Shane Sabre, Allessandro del Bruno, Ricky Shane Page and Kody Lane will compete in the unique rules match for the Alpha Male Championship alongside current Champion BMD.

Participants can only climb the ladder in an attempt to retrieve the title after earning an armband from pinning or submitting an opponent. Wrestlers on the losing end of these outcomes not only lose any armbands they have previously earned, but also have to sit for two minutes in a penalty box whilst the match continues.

Trey Miguel vs Brandon Cutler vs Jack Christ will also take place on the show.

CWE Canada are bringing in James Storm for a training seminar at the Blaze Pro Wrestling School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The promotion’s next show will be in Mitchell, Manitoba on April 26th.

Miya Yamashita will wrestle Serena Deeb on Maple Leaf’s “Northern Rising” show in Toronto on May 10th. QT Marshall, Billy Gunn, Rich Swann, Bishop Dyer, Sheldon Jean, ELP, Psycho Mike, Bhupinder Gujjar have all been announced for the Championship Gauntlet on the same show.

The company will make their Montreal debut on July 5th with “Resurrection” on July 5th. Promotional material features PCO, who played a key role in drawing a sold out crowd for TNA in the city last summer.

Chile

Revolucion Lucha Libre’s “Ambición de Poder 2025” show on March 30th featured a host of imports mixing it up with local talent in front of a packed, lively crowd. Diamante, Rhino, Jay Lethal, Brian Kendrick and Zack Sabre. Jr. all made their way to Santiago, Chile for the show.

Hans Kaempfer won the Revolucion World Championship in a four way with Engranaje Jack, Rhino and Angel, who began the bout as the title holder.

A match between Kaempfer and Angel is still available to the promotion after the inbound champion had no involvement in the finish after suffering a gore from Rhino and falling to the outside. This was the opening Kaempfer required, with him able to capture the belt after an elbow drop from the top rope onto the former ECW star.

Local praise was plenty for Zack Sabre Jr., who has been spending time walking and training in Chile between New Japan tours. The former IWGP Champion held seminars at Santiago training schools in the days leading up to the event and wrestled Dylan Fabrizio, one of Chile’s best prospects, in what was described to us as the match of the night, with Zack doing everything he could to emphasize his opponent.
