AAA’s first major show of the year was screened live on Space and MAX in Mexico, becoming available on Youtube the week after. As has become standard fare, only the second half of the show was broadcast live with the Rey de Reyes qualifying matches screened on TV a week later, as well as the debut of the third La Parka. That the major talking point from this show was not on the live broadcast feels like a very AAA thing to do.

La Parka came out of the coffin that was part of last year’s Triplemania proceedings (and you can absolutely argue was in questionable taste), at the ushering of Vampiro before breaking into some of his best dance moves as “Thriller” played throughout the arena. This third iteration of La Parka has been named as Brazo de Oro Jr.

The original character was played by Adolfo Tapia, who wrestled under the mask until 1996 and now goes by LA Park. He was succeeded by Chuy Escubeda, who wrestled under the gimmick until 2020, when he suffered an in-ring injury that eventually led to his death.

The 3rd edition of La Parka will debut on May 3rd. In a six man tag against The Tokyo Bad Boys in the same venue. The late Chuy Escubeda’s son was asked about the prospect of playing the role but rejected it, wanting to forge his own path. It isn’t clear that AAA informed them they were going to go ahead with bringing back the gimmick regardless of whether he accepted or not.

The TV portion of the show opened with an in ring promo segment where both Jeff Jarrett and JBL rehashed promos from the past and some strange heeling of Latin Lover before giving way to the AAA Tag Team Title match. This was a complete comedy of errors, perhaps from before the match was even made.

AAA vacated the Tag Team Titles ahead of this show. Raj Dhesi and Satnam Singh had captured the belts at last year’s Triplemania Mexico event and had not been seen thereafter. Jeff Jarrett sent in a promo stating that he would be challenging for the belts on Saturday alongside a mystery partner. Unsurprisingly, the mystery partner was Sam Adonis, who probably wished he hadn’t signed up for the spot.

A series of dives to the outside in the middle of the match can only be described as a disaster. Pagano does manage to make it without issue, but then Forastero overshoots, no one manages to catch him fully and he lands heavily on his left ankle, grabbing it immediately. Not to be outdone, Sam Adonis goes up top, walks the ropes with assistance from Laredo Kid and attempts a moonsault onto the group of wrestlers gathered underneath.

Adonis never even makes it to them though, he is unable to gain the distance needed and instead lands face first on the ring apron. Even Pagano looked like he cringed.

The wrestler seemed to take it in good spirits, later posting on X, “Started the night ½ of the AAA Tag Team Champions with @RealJeffJarrett. Ended the night with a dislocated draw, broken nose and 13 stitches in my lip! Sadly, I will 1000% be the MVP of the next Botchamania.” A later spot, where he was put through a table by Pagano, felt like additional salt in the wound. Forastero and Sanson (at this point wrestling by himself) were able to capture the vacated belts.

The next bout saw Flammer retain the Reina de Reinas title, defeating Dalys with a roll up following a Lady Shani distraction. Shani would shake hands with Flammer before attacking her from behind.

Nino Hamburguesa was the victor in the Rey De Reyes final. This might feel like an over elevation for the popular lower carder but AAA have been working an angle with Champion El Patron bullying Nino during TV tapings and have now chosen to move it to the top of the card. He won the match with a splash from the ringpost and the crowd reacted strongly in the moment and to his celebrations with the sword thereafter.

The main event between Champion Alberto El Patron and El Hijo de Vikingo was an interference and weapon filled affair filled affair which mostly involved Alberto playing to the crowd whilst his cohorts inflicted damage on Vikingo before Hamburguesa arrived to allow the babyface to achieve one desperate nearfall after stomping El Patron through a table from the top rope.

The match became about everything except for Vikingo after that as a game of pass the parcel with a guitar occurred, ending with Patron smashing it over his opponent’s head. A crash through a table and it was over in a deeply unmemorable affair.

Rogelio Reyes, who wrestled previously under the El Cuatrero name, was backstage at the show after being released from prison. He had been incarcerated two years ago following charges of domestic assault following an incident involving then girlfriend Stephanie Vacquer. It would, sadly, be unsurprising if he appeared again with the promotion.

Triplemania XXXIII will run out of Arena CDMX In Mexico City on August 16th, 2025. There does not appear to be a continuation of the trio of Triplemania events seen last year.

Alberto El Patron was suspended from wrestling in Tijuana for six months following an incident with the audience at a show in the city on March 14th. El Patron, whose gimmick involves being perceived as out of control, jumped the rail after being hit with coins and had a chair thrown at him. The wrestler threw a chair back in what has been described as a scare tactic but that only led to more chairs being thrown and another audience member being injured. The fan received medical attention for their injuries. A number of outlets have published the footage online.

The Tijuana Commision only has jurisdiction over the city itself so this will not affect his participation in TV tapings within the rest of Baja California. It looks like AAA is not running a Triplemania in Tijuana this year so that will not be an issue for the period of his suspension.

CMLL Homenaje A Dos Leyendas 2025

This was a more subdued lineup on paper than was expected for what has traditionally been the second biggest show of the year but still had its moments in front of a declared sold out crowd. This year’s show honoured Honoured Salvador Lutteroth Camou II, with a ceremony taking place after the Titan vs Templario matchup.

The show was headlined by a tag match between Star Jr./Zandokan Jr. vs Esfinge and Valiente leading into a mask vs mask match. The tag format didn’t seem to work as well as the elimination match on the Anniversary show, it fully adopted the WWE favourite ‘can they go exist?’ framework, but Star, Jr was able to get the win, leading to the show’s conclusion.

Zandokan Jr. was able to put Star. Jr. down with the tiger bomb, forcing the 32 year old wrestler to unmask. Star Jr. was revealed as Isaías Hernández López, the 32 year old son of Isaías Hernández Muñoz. Lopez attacked his opponent after the match, setting up a program. He wrestled without his mask the next night in Mexico City.

Earlier on in the card, AEW wrestlers Hologram and Komander wrestled two members of El Sky Team, in the form of Mascara Dorada and Mistico. Hologram and Komander were well received by the Arena Mexico crowd, some of which took to booing Mistico whenever he was on offense. Mistico struggled in parts, whether from the crowd or from his list of injuries but the match really showcased the American based team to the point they should be an easy return booking.

La Jarochita and Lluvia, known as Las Chicas Indornables won a three way final to capture the previously vacant CMLL women’s Tag Team titles and Angel de Oro and Niebla Roja made their 21st defense of the World Tag Team Titles at the second time of asking, after original match ended on a double countout.

Mistico appeared on CMLL’s Informa show on 03/26 alongside Dr. Roberto Rodriguez. Together, they listed off the injuries which are currently keeping him out of action. The wrestler has been working with a partially torn tricep and an ankle ligament injury since the New Japan’s “FantasticaMania” tour in late February and is hoping that a short period away from the ring will help him to avoid surgery. Signs were posted in Arena Puebla on 03/24 announcing refunds were available due to this enforced absence.

The same episode of Informa also hosted the announcement of the CMLL vs MLW show on May 2nd. This is an interesting and ambitious challenge as box office for lesser known AEW talents have provided mixed results and a number of the MLW talent working the show are not recognisable TV wrestlers but it is a sign of commitment to the group that has been heavy on CMLL talent usage for some time.

The lineup consists of Mistico vs KUSHIDA (non title), a MLW National Title match between Matthew Justice and Ultimo Guerrero, Paul London vs Neon, Zandokan Jr. and Barboza vs Ikuro Kwon and Donavan Dijak, Reyna Isis vs Janai Kai and Satoshi Kojima and Okumara defending the MLW Tag Team Championships against Magnus and Rugido. It takes place on the same night as RoH’s “Supercard of Honor.”

CMLL’s Champions of Champions tournament will take place between 4/4 and 4/25. The tournament matches will be a series of ciberneticos, ending in a three way to decide the winner on the final night.

The April 5th show at Arena Coliseo will celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the venue. The show is currently showing no online ticket availability despite a number of the bigger name talent working the MLW show in Los Angeles on the same night.

Jesús Juárez Hernández was revealed under the mask of Black Tiger. The 57 year old is a popular trainer in the Puebla area and has been wrestling for 39 years. His unmasking was a truly emotional moment, as he invited his grandson into the ring to take part.

The mask victor was Multy, who trained under Black Tiger and was able to put away his teacher with a second cavenaria after Tiger had escaped the first. Hernández used the name primarily in the Puebla region and is not to be confused with the New Japan gimmick under the same name.

L.A. Park, Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo de L.A. Park, L.A. Park Jr, & Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Psicopata del Ring (Psycho Clown), Juventud Guerrera, Gatubela, Ludark, Mascarita Divina, Demus and others have signed up for Masked Mania: The Lucha Libre Experience shows in May in Atlanta and Charlotte.

The promoter has booked two mid size arenas for the tour but the advances, according to Wrestletix estimates, are not strong. May 3rd at the Gas South Arena has distributed 605 tickets while the Charlotte show, set for the Bojangles Coliseum is at 368.

El Hijo Del Santo is being advertised for his final dates in the UK on the 10/31 and 01/11. He will attend the Lucha Libre World shows in York Hall, London.

If you feel like you may have read this somewhere before, it is because you have. The same tagline was used ahead of last year’s tour as well.

The next series of Masked Republic’s “Legends of Lucha Libre” will feature Dralistico, RUSH and Dragon Lee. The figures are produced by Boss Fight Studios.

Baby Xtreme, who previously wrestled under the Drago moniker in AAA, has confirmed he broke his tibia and fibula in his right leg during Riot’s La Rina tournament. the ‘air demon’ took a bad landing during the semi final against Bandido and Canis Lupus. A number of luchadors have set up fundraisers to help him during his recovery, including Arez who is using his entrance mask from the event to raise money.

The tournament was won by Bandido, who defeated Riot regular Arez Strange in the final. Riot have announced 05/17 as the date for their next Monterrey show.

Vago Lucha Libre (named after promoter Vago Estrada) will run in Golden, Colorado on May 25th. Latigo, Mecha Wolf, Rey Horus, Arez, Bestia 666 and Toxin are all advertised for the event.

Swerve Strickland will challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW Men’s World Championship at the “Dynasty” PPV on 04/06 from Philadelphia. This will mark the second time in two years that Strickland has challenged for the title at this PPV.

With just 4 weeks between previous PPV “Revolution” and this one, as well as two weeks where the focus was primarily on a rematch with former Number 1 Contender Adam Copeland, the build has lent on the long term story between Strickland and rival “Hangman” Adam Page, who is expected to play some role in proceedings on Sunday.

The decision to put Strickland and Page around the World Title picture is both an interesting and potentially dangerous one, with a large part of the audience still reeling from the decision to not run the match for the World Title at All In last year and general feeling towards the Death Rider storyline still on the low end in regards of reception.

AEW added extra layers of expectation by running an “All In” promo video over the past two weeks with a distinct focus on Swerve Strickland and Adam Page.

Elsewhere on the card, Toni Storm, fresh off of her feud ender with Mariah May at Revolution and a string of incredible promos, will face powerful Challenger Megan Bayne, who has been built up well ahead of the match.

Kenny Omega will also make his first defense of the Intercontinental Championship in a three way against “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Ricochet whilst Bandido looks to keep his mask and capture the Ring of Honor World Title from Chris Jeticho.

The April 17th show in Boston will be a live Collision on a Thursday night. The news came from WBD releasing their April schedule.

Whilst the focus of many is in the date change meaning they avoid a rating damaging head to head with the first night of Wrestlemania, it was also the best spot available in that week with TNT’s coverage (alongside ESPN) of the NBA’s play in tournament between 04/15-04/18 and the first night of the NBA Playoffs, which will take over Collision’s usual time slot

This does give AEW and WBD the ability to test out the Thursday night slot which will become vacant once the NBA leaves the network at the end of this season’s playoffs and would allow for much easier travel logistics for the AEW crew and roster.

Dynamite and Collision in that week have been dubbed with the theme “Spring Break Thru” as AEW celebrates becoming the “longest running prime time weekly pro wrestling program in Turner sports history!”, as per Tony Khan, on X.

The Boston show marks the Dynamite episode which surpasses WCW’s Nitro’s total of 288 episodes between 1995 and 2001.

Kevin Knight has signed with AEW. Tony Khan announced the deal during the 03/39 episode but the deal was in place ahead of last Wednesday’s Dynamite. Knight was one of a number of talents that was expected to leave NJPW after the January 4th Tokyo Dome show. WWE did show interest in the young talent but he has chosen to sign with AEW.

He will debut on AEW PPV at this Sunday’s Dynamite PPV, taking on Will Ospreay in the first round of the Owen Hart Cup. Knight is a direct replacement for Jay White, after an injury which will require surgery saw him withdrawn from the tournament as well as the proposer Dynasty match.

Ring of Honor Ring Announcer Bobby Cruise also announced he has signed a new contract.

Saraya announced on her new podcast, Rulebreakers with Saraya that she would be leaving the company in what she has termed a mutual decision.

She broke the news In quotes given to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the podcast’s release,

“I’m here to tell you that me and AEW’s relationship has come to an end,” Saraya reportedly said. “I had an amazing time there. There’s no bad blood between us. I had such a magical time.”

Saraya debuted for the company in September 2022, first wrestling two months later in a Full Gear victory over Britt Baker. She has played a key role in the development of breakout star Harley Cameron, but has not been used on a regular basis over much of the past six months.
Her management team told Fightful that she is now a free agent, however she remains on AEW’s Roster page at this point in time.

RoH Supercard of Honor has moved away from being part of Wrestlemania week. It will be hosted instead on Friday 2nd May at the Adrian Phillips Theater within the Boardwalk Hall Complex in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Collision will emanate from the same venue the day after. Adam Page took to Bluesky to announce that the light version of his ‘Judge, Jury Executioner’ shirt released for one week at ShopAEW had become the best selling shirt of the year so far. The dark version of the same design, released last September, broke the One Hour Tees record.

Wardlow’s appearance with Pandemonium Wrestling during Wrestlemania Week has been cancelled. It is unclear if he has been cleared or not at this point.

The Hologram and Komander tag team will now be known as ‘Los Titanes del Aire’. Alvaro Riojas recently used the name in a video and it has now been adopted by the company as a whole.

The first full trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 was released by Netflix on March 18th and briefly features MJF. Friedman plays one of Gilmore’s sons in the sequel that will be released on July 25th, 2025.

MJF also threw out the first pitch at Globe Life Field last week, as AEW advertised their upcoming stadium show during Opening Day.

Dynamite and Collision will run out of the Masonic Temple Theater in Detroit on 7th and 8th May. This is the first time the company has returned to the city since May 2023.

Congratulations to Ricochet and Samantha Irvin, who got married this past week.

Matt Jackson and Dana Massie will release the second episode of Youtube travel series “Never Not Jetlagged” on 04/04. The travel vlog will focus on Mexico on this occassion.

Collision episodes “Slam Dunk Saturday” and “Slam Dunk Sunday” on 03/22 and 03/23 aired as one hour specials directly after NCAA tournament games on each night.

The high lead-ins will help Collision’s average across the year, especially considering the increased weeks against direct WWE competition they currently face airing on Saturday nights. It also illustrates the value that WBD finds in AEW as a lead out for sports programming.

The programming being split into two one hour blocks in this way is a step up from last year where Collision was cancelled because of March Madness. It is a sign of Warner Bros Discovery’s investment in AEW that they are willing to explore moving Collision’s timeslot rather than just cancelling episodes as they have done in the past.

Andrew Zarian reports potential TV schedule changes will also take place in June due to the NHL playoffs/finals of the Stanley Cup that could result in a 4 hour block of content rather than skipping a week of Collision.

Collision will also likely need to find another time slot on 06/28 when the Nascar Cup Series airs that evening on TNT.

The viral spot in the World Title Street Fight between Adam Copeland and Jon Moxley was to drive engagement. Upon realising the nail board was stuck in Moxley’s back, the referee asked Moxley if he wanted help removing it but Moxley waved him off, recognising the visual of the moment. Moxley is said to be OK after the spot.

The spot was covered by TMZ the next day.

The match on 03/19 took place in Omaha, Nebraska, just as a blizzard swept over the local area. This led to several talent driving multiple hours in unsavoury conditions in an attempt to make the show whilst others saw their travel plans fall through as the weather took its toll.

A number of segments were cancelled due to the disruption, with the scheduled matches being given more time to fill out the show.

Fightful and PWInsider reported that WBD were very happy with the Minecraft promotional integration during the 3/26 episode which also included Outrunner’s videos being created for social platforms as an additional bonus.

Dave Meltzer reports that Hurt Syndicate vs Big Bill/ Bryan Keith is the replacement match for Dynasty after Brian Cage was injured at an independent show in Los Angeles whilst wrestling Chris Masters.

Janel Grant’s Legal Team filed a report to the court on 03/28 with the request that discovery begins. In her suit the report lists what the Grant team would look to obtain, including documents in relation to Vince McMahon’s payments to numerous other women as well as WWE’s sexual harassment policies.

The defendants are all opposed to this, citing that the case is still awaiting an arbitration ruling, with WWE’s attorney, Paul Weiss, citing Connecticut Federal Court Laws that allow for discovery to be delayed until a judge makes a decision on arbitration.

Vince McMahon attended the New York Knicks – Miami Heat game on 03/17 in Madison Square Garden and was shown on the TV broadcast.

A rumour around the status of Shinsuke Nakamura’s contract status spread across social media in recent weeks. The statement that ‘WWE would not be renewing Nakamura’s contract’ was attributed to Wade Keller but was never made by the PW Torch journalist.

Natalya will release her memoir on October 28th, 2025. The Benbella release is entitled “The Last Hart Beating” and was announced during a recent appearance on the Ariel Heiwani show.

WWE announced a second European Tour of the year, focused on Ireland, the UK and France in August. The eight night “Road to Clash In Paris” tour will include three TV tapings, with Smackdown in Dublin on Friday 22nd August, Raw in Birmingham on Monday 25th August and a second Smackdown on Friday 29th in Lyon, France. This will be their first TV event in Ireland as a whole.

Whilst these dates are occurring in the lead up to the ‘Clash in Paris’ PLE at the La Defense Arena on August 31st, it also surrounds AEW’s Forbidden Door PPV on the weekend before. The show is set to take place in London but has still not announced an on sale date for ticketing or a venue. The widely held belief is that this show will emanate from the O2 Arena in London and that AEW are unable to announce it due to the WWE TV tapings which have recently taken place.

WWE will claim plausible deniability on this countering, being that it leads up to a PLE in Europe, but it is part of a pattern of counter programming against AEW that has escalated since the younger company re-signed with WBD. Double or Nothing will go against the NXT Battleground PLE on Memorial Day weekend and the day after a Saturday Night’s Main Event show on NBC. All In, on July 12th, will face same day competition from SNME, but have wisely chosen to move their tentpole show to 2pm, in a clever counter measure. The location of the 7/12 SNME is yet to be confirmed but suspicion over a Texas location has been heightened by a Smackdown taping in San Antonio being moved to the following week after previously announcing a different date.

Bleau Live Theater will hold multiple events on top of the WWE Hall of Fame during Wrestlemania week. The Undertaker’s ‘One Dead Man’ show will be held at 10pm PT on Saturday 19th April and Sunday 20th April will see ‘The Roast of Wrestlemania’ featuring comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. Hinchcliffe hit the news in recent months due to comments around Puerto Rico in the run up to November’s US elections. This event will not be televised. WWE sources claim that this was more Hinchcliffe’s idea than theirs.

NXT will close out the week with a 5pm PT live taping on Tuesday 22nd.

The Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place Friday, April 18th at 10pm.

Announced so far for Paul Levesque’s second Hall of Fame class are Paul Levesque, Michelle McCool, Lex Luger and the Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon).

Luger would like Sting to induct him, however Sting is contracted to AEW. Luger, who holds a WWE Legends Deal, was allowed to attend Sting’s last match at Revolution 2024 but was unable to be shown on camera.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Bret Hart, from Wrestlemania 13, will become the first match inducted, in a move which is similar to how TKO partner UFC conducts its own ceremonies.

The WWE ID program will run a tournament for the WWE ID Championship during Wrestlemania week, partnering with GCW and FSW to host the matches. Zayda Steel, Ice Williams, Jackson Drake, Sean Legacy, Swipe Right, Zara Zakhar and Cappuccino Jones have all been announced for the two days with GCW on April 16th and FSW on April 18th.

The first tournament matches announced are Kylie Rae vs Zayda Steel and Ice Williams vs Brad Baylor.

This year appears to indicate a marked difference in approach to the independent shows that have gravitated to Wrestlemania over the past decade. WWE have seemingly decided on an approach where they work with selected independents over this period rather then employing tactics such as venue blocking we have seen in the past.

On Location partnered with WWE to offer a lunch with John Cena for $25,000 each. The five star restaurant experience on the stripping on Wednesday of Wrestlemania Week will be limited to twenty people.

Alexa Bliss has been pulled from the WWE World (formerly AXXESS) events in Las Vegas. Bliss last appeared at the Elimination Chamber PLE. Dave Meltzer reported that the belief is she will return to Smackdown at the same time as the Wyatt Sicks.

Joe Hendry will attend the convention on 19th and 20th April.

Backstage correspondent Megan Morant announced on Instagram on 03/21 the birth of her first child. Congratulations to her and her family.

Shinsuke Nakamura announced on X that he will be doing voice work for ‘Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc.’ Shinsuke will be voicing Kamaan Dusu for the Netflix show.

Fenix is now officially signed with WWE. The expected signing was first confirmed by Fightful. He will debut on the 04/04 Smackdown from Rosemont, Illinois. This is a good move by WWE, in a similar manner to choosing San Jose for Penta’s Raw debut.

The Slammys will be a social media event again this year, going out on all social platforms on Sunday 20th April. The Awards will be hosted by Big E and Cathy Kelly.

The first episode of Stephanie’s Places with Stephanie McMahon premiered 03/26 featured HHH and CM Punk. The series streams weekly on ESPN+.

TKO parent company Endeavour was acquired by Silver Lake on 03/23 in an expected move. Silver Lake took the company private in what the company has deemed the largest deal of its type ever in the media and entertainment sector, giving them a value of $25 billion. The acquisition was completed in part due to investments from the Dell family and an Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund.

Endeavour will be renamed WME group. Ari Emanuel will act as Executive Chairman whilst Mark Shapiro has been named President and Managing Partner.

There are no immediate effects on the day to day operation of TKO, which will remain a publicly traded company that Endeavour holds control over thanks to their stockholding.

Mark Henry has signed a Legends deal with the company. He will continue as a host of Busted Open Radio. Henry left AEW in May 2024.

On Location and WWE have pulled the listing for ‘Hulk Hogan’s Real American Suite Package’ for Wrestlemania. The removal came two days after the package was dropped in price from $9,500 to $6,950.

The Orlando Business Journal reports that the Greater Orlando Sports Commission is seeking $18 million as a grant in order to bid on multiple WWE and UFC events, including the 2026 Survivor Series, the 2028 Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania in 2031.

The commission is appealing to Orange County for the funds, citing a potential economic impact of $120 million from the events for the area.

NXT Stand and Deliver will now have a 10am PT start time to ensure attendees have enough time to reach Allegiance Stadium for Wrestlemania.

WWE have announced a series of “After Dark” events throughout Wrestlemania week, once more within the Fontainebleau complex. Thursday 04/17 sees a launch party featuring appearances from Rey Mysterio, Charlotte Flair and Biance Belair and then after parties following the HoF on 04/18 and both Wrestlemania shows.

TV News Notes

The company has completed its pre-Wrestlemania leg of TV, with 5 tapings across Europe that all aired on Netflix live. This is an important part of the global component to the Netflix deal that didn’t appear to create too much difference to their weekly viewing numbers on the platform.

The first Raw at an earlier time slot had John Cena’s first live appearance since his heel turn at Elimination Chamber. Cena would appear on all 3 Raw’s during this period, taking part in back to back Cody promo exchanges, with mixed and often impersonal results. Cena is not currently scheduled for any further TV appearances prior to Wrestlemania.

TV confirmed a number of other matches for WWE’s flagship weekend, including triple threats between Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky, and another between CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. It is the non World Title match receiving the Night One main event, giving CM Punk the first one of his career, be it with an asterisk.

The attendance on this tour matched a trend which has been occuring in the US since the start of the year, with the two Raw shows in Brussels and Glasgow sold out whilst Smackdown struggled to move tickets to the same degree.

There were differing strategies in place as well, with Barcelona receiving massive markdowns of ticket prices in the days before the show, opposed to Smackdown in London, where tickets were held at the high price point throughout, leaving large parts of the floor seating unoccupied during the taping.

London also saw the debut of Smackdown ring announcer Mark Nash. Nash, real name Mark Shunock, is the long term replacement for Lilian Garcia and has previously worked for Top Rank Boxing.

A contentious point in the tapings was the debut of El Grande Americano, complete with “Gulf of America” graphics.

Ernesto Ocampo, the editor of Super Luchas wrote on X:
“This is an insult on many levels, both to Mexican wrestling and Mexico itself. They could have left out the ‘Gulf of America’ reference and at least tried to write the character’s name in proper Spanish.”

TNA

TNA made some major structural changes on 03/25, with Ariel Shnerner, Michael Shewchencko, Rob Kligman, Ramy Glazer, Sebastian Dastranii and Karen Clevett and Gail Kim all being let go by the company.

An email was sent to all office personnel and talent announcing the dismissals, and was first published by PWInsider. It reads:

Hunter Johnson, more widely recognised under his wrestling name “Delirious”, will now head up creative in a role he held previously for Ring of Honor. Tommy Dreamer will lead Talent Relations. Both men will report directly to newly appointed TNA President Carlos Silva, who was primarily responsible for these changes.

The news was not well received by many people in the company, some taking to social media to make indirect comments about the changes. Most of the disappointment appeared to center around the departure of Gail Kim, who had been with the company since 2011 and previously between 2005 to 2008. Kim worked as a Producer and in Talent Relations but had recently been removed from her roles to work on “special projects”, per a source speaking to Dave Meltzer.

Gail Kim released a statement after the news became public:

Rob Kligman is the third short lived CEO in a row despite being credited internally, in claims made to Voices of Wrestling’s Mike Gllbert, with generating close to $1 million in ad sales in under 12 months to companies such as Topps and Vitacoco.
Michael Schewchenko was said to be behind the rebranding of the Impact+ app to TNA+ as well as building the relationship with Endeavour. He also pushed for the weekly Impact Television episodes to be part of the streaming service, with suggestions that it doubled traffic towards the service.

The inclusion of Rafael Morffi confirms a consultation role which has been somewhat denied in the past. This was likely down to Morfii having agreed a no compete when leaving his former Live Event role with All Elite Wrestling.

Two new appointments were made in the wake of the departures, David Clevinger joins as the Senior Vice President of Digital and Nicole Rachine has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Sales for TNA and Invicta, a similar position to the role she previously held for World Tennis.

The promotion announced a series of changes to the TNA+ VOD platform. The annual rate has been dropped to $159.99 and will include all PPVs on top of the TNA+ specials, episodes of Impact! and Rebellion and their tape library. Additionally, there will now be a seasonal pass, valid for 3 months at $49.99, with the same lineup as the annual pass. This will be available during limited periods in the year with the first on sale period ending on April 11th. The standard offering, which does not include PPVs, will continue at the $9.99 price point.

Dixie Carter announced on social media that her mother, Janice Carter, had passed away. Janice Carter played a key role in controlling the family finances in regards of investments. TNA was owned by the Carter family between 2002-2017. Janice Carter was CEO of Panda Energy.

TNA have announced the first matches for the upcoming “Rebellion” PPV on Sunday, April 27th.

The Hardys will defend their Tag Team Championships against the Nemeth Brothers while this past week’s tapings in St. Joseph, Missouri also saw a three way for the TNA World Championship set up between Champion Joe Hendry, Frankie Kazarian and NXT’s Ethan Page on his return to the promotion.

Moose will also defend the X Division Championship in Ultimate X on the same show in Los Angeles.

Other developments at the tapings included TNA’s on screen director of authority, Santino Marella, strip Steph de Lander of the Digital Media Championship and the announcement of the TNA International Title. The new belt’s first owner will be decided in a tournament, in which each match will be a three way.

Fightful reported that Lowell, Massachusetts is being discussed as a potential location for October’s “Bound for Glory” PPV. If confirmed, the venue will be the Tsongas Center.

TNA have confirmed the signing of Maggie Lee, a former gas dock worker and volleyball player who trained at Seth Rollins’s “Black and Brave Wrestling” which is based in her native Iowa.

MLW

Cesar Duran (the former Dario Cueto in Lucha Underground) has returned to an on screen authority figure role for the upcoming Battle Riot show in Los Angeles on April 5th. A press release has entitled him as ‘MLW President.’ He replaces Eric Bischoff in the authority figure role, who is done with the company at this time.

Juicy Finau, KUSHIDA, Jesus Rodrigues, Bishop Dyer, Ikuro Kwon, Anthony Greene, Tom Lawlor, Matthew Justice, Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Blue Panther and Esfinge and Virus have all been announced for the signature Battle Riot match on the show. HIMAWARI, making her debut in the promotion, will face Janai Kai of the CONTRA unit.

Mistico was due to defend the MLW Middleweight title in an all CMLL affair against Templario but it is unknown whether he will be cleared to wrestle at that point. He will be travelling to Los Angeles regardless.

The promotion announced on 03/19 that the show is sold out before moving it to the Thunder Studios Arena in Long Beach. This venue is now also sold out, with the company claiming it could be the biggest attendance in their history.

Fightful reports that MLW wants to expand their relationship with TJPW going forward.

Bishop Dyer, in an interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, stated that he has already committed to a few dates with the company.

US Independents

An independent wrestler passed away during a show for the second week in a row. Graham Michael Moor, who wrestled under the name “Artist Artest” was wrestling for Xtreme Valley Wrestling in Fairborn, Ohio on March 22nd when he fell unconscious and stopped breathing.

A report from the Fairborn Police Department, obtained by Post Wrestling, stated that the Police and Fire Department attended the venue, with medical staff performing “life saving measures”. Sadly, he was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Greene County Coroner’s Office and the Fairborn Police Department have launched an investigation into the death.

Xtreme Valley Wrestling announced Moor’s passing in a statement on their Facebook page:

“It is with great sadness that I have the duty to inform the fans of XVW that after collapsing tonight at XVW, and being rushed to hospital… Artist Artest has passed away. The death raises further questions about the presence of medical staff at wrestling events. There is no legal requirement in a number of US states for this to happen and it is a serious financial commitment; however, immediate, trained medical attention can dramatically increase the chance of a full recovery.

Leyla Hirsch, Karion Kross, Karmin Petrovic, Charlie Dempsey, Gabe Kidd and Pete Dunne have been announced for Bloodsport XIII on April 17th in Las Vegas. Previous announcements include Natalya, Simon Gotch, Miyu Yamashita, Tom Lawlor, Timothy Thatcher and Maika.

Natalya will face TJPW’s Miyu Yamishita. The two have trained together previously.

Hirsch announced on social media that she will accept independent bookings once more after taking a break following her AEW release.

Pandemonium will be headlining their Wrestlemania Week show on 04/17 with Hechicero vs Kevin Blackwood after Shelton Benjamin was pulled from the show. Benjamin was one of the last AEW talents scheduled to compete in Las Vegas.

Ninja Mack vs Mustafa Ali, Maya World vs Miu Watanabe, Masha Slamovich vs MAO have also been announced. The show will be aired locally at 12pm PT on KPVM and globally on Youtube.

Zack Sabre Jr. v 1 Called Manders has been added to Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 show on April 19th. Gabe Kidd v Mance Warner and Suzu Suzuki v Masha Slamovich for the JCW Championship will also take place on the show. Janela has played into online discourse by adding a ‘Senior Scramble’ that will only allow wrestlers to participate who are over the age of 55.

The Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow on April 16th has Maki Itoh v Mickie James and Mascara Dorada vs Ninja Mack as new attractions. Wrestlecon is offering free entry in Las Vegas on the final day of this year’s convention.

GCW will run Maki Itoh challenging Effy for the GCW World Title in Portland on May 4th.

Cedric Alexander has begun to announce independent dates following his release from WWE. He will appear for House of Glory in Chicago on May 9th.

The Good Brothers are also returning to the independents, with a cage match against the Powers of Pain (Warlord and Barbarian) for All Star Wrestling in West Virginia on June 7th.

House of Glory also has Konosuke Takeshita for their New York show entitled ‘Isolation’ on April 25th. He will face Mike Santana at the event.

Both shows will be on Triller.

The company will be opening another training school in Orlando in May. Amazing Red will be the head trainer in the new location.

Future Stars of Wrestling held a benefit show for Chris Bey on 03/03 in Las Vegas.

Stars from multiple promotions took part in the fundraiser, including WWE’s Karrion Kross, AEW’s Swerve Strickland and Ricochet, TNA’s AJ Francis and Bey’s tag partner in the promotion, Ace Austin.

The highlight of the show was Bey appearing in the entranceway and being able to make his way into the ring just months after a broken neck cast doubt over whether he would be able to walk again. The wrestler was accompanied by girlfriend Brittnie Brooks, who assisted him through the ropes.

Bey made an emotional speech to close out proceedings, ending by declaring;

Defy’s ‘Streets of Rage’ show on April 13th has announced ELP v Mance Warner and Gabe Kidd v Calvin Tankman from WA Hall. The show will also be available on Triller.

Prestige Wrestling, West Coast Pro and Deadlock Pro Wrestling are combining for a joint show in Los Angeles on June 1st. Unit3D will take place at The Vermont theater in Hollywood.

The National Wrestling Alliance “Crockett Cup” show will also see Thom Latimer defend the NWA title against Rhino. The venue on May 17th will be the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

Canada

Canada’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling will hold their next show on Saturday, May 10th from the Mattamy Athletic Center, the former Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario. The show will once again broadcast on Triller+. Josh Alexander, who is expected to join AEW, is part of their promotional material.

The company is also exploring the possibility of signing talent to exclusive deals with guaranteed money in an attempt to obtain a TV streaming deal.

Luna Vachon is the center of the documentary “Lunatic” which premiered on 03/29 at Scotiabank Theater Cinema 14 in Toronto. The movie is produced by Katie Kroll and covers the challenges of her career outside the ring as well as what happened inside.
