Wrestlemania 31 is just a few days away and despite the lackluster build this year I still think this is a good card and has the potential to exceed many fans’ expectations. Here are my Wrestlemania 31 Predictions.
The 2nd Annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
It was announced on Thursday’s Wrestlemania Today special that the Andre the Giant Battle Royal has been moved to the pre-show. This decision has upset several fans and I’m sure the guys have to be somewhat disappointed. Personally, I’m not that mad about the decision. Cesaro winning the Battle Royal last year did him no favors and there’s no guarantee that the winner this year will get anything special. Until the winner gets something more than a trophy this match should probably always be on the pre-show. With the pre-show and main show both being on the WWE Network, I don’t think it matters that match is not on the main card. There is part of me that wants to say Mizdow will win, but I’m not confident they’ll pull the trigger on him yet. There are also many rumors of Sheamus being a surprise entrant in the Battle Royal. Obviously if he makes his return he’s going to win. If Sheamus doesn’t return in this match, I’m going to go with the “Big Guy” Ryback.
WWE Tag Team Championship
Cesaro & Tyson Kidd vs. New Day vs. Los Matadores vs. Usos
I’m kind of confused with why WWE went with Los Matadores for this match instead of the recently reunited Prime Time Players, The Ascension, or the Lucha Dragons who have stringed up a series of victories on Superstars and Main Event. Regardless of that, this should be a fun match with several innovative spots. I’m going with Cesaro and Kidd on this one. They’ve been dominant champions and the only relevant tag team besides the Usos.
Intercontinental Title Ladder Match
This match is full of guys who deserve better than to be thrown in a ladder match. There’s nothing we can do to change now, so we just have to roll with it. I’m sure all seven of these guys are going into this match with chips on the shoulder and wanting to steal the show. There have been rumors on the dirt sheets that WWE really wants to elevate the mid card titles. There is no better person to elevate the Intercontinental Title than Daniel Bryan. With the potential of Brock retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Bryan can main event pay per views and house shows defending the Intercontinental title. This could even lead into a Title vs. Title Match between Bryan and Brock at Summerslam.
Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins
This has been a weird build to this match. I understand that they wanted Orton to pretend to align with the Authority so he can go to Rollins, but why would he want to join them again after the beating they gave me? Orton has the majority of momentum going into this match which makes me think Rollins will find a way to go over and build momentum for a potential cash in later in the night.
Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker
The build up for this match would have been so much better if we got at least one Undertaker appearance. He didn’t have to wrestle. He didn’t even have to cut a promo. All he had to do is show up, have a faceoff with Bray, point to the Wrestlemania sign, and do his cut throat taunt. I feel this match is a lose-lose situation. If Taker wins he defeats a guy who is supposed to be the future of the business, but if Taker loses what was the point of him even coming back just to lose? I’ve heard the theory of building a losing streak for Taker going into Wrestlemania 32 which would be Taker’s last match and the build would question if Taker could win his last match. That’s an interesting theory, but I’m going with Taker winning which rebuild him for a match next year.
AJ Lee and Paige vs. The Bella Twins
All of the #GiveDivasAChance Tweeters are upset this isn’t a one on one title match. Having this tag match allows WWE to get more divas on the show. With the Battle Royal and the Tag Title Match being on the pre-show, there’s a chance for this match to get some decent time. The Bellas (especially Nikki) are going to once again show how good they are at what they do. As much as I want to say the Bellas are going to win, I have a feeling the frenemies are going to pick up the win.
WWE United States Championship Match
Rusev vs. John Cena
Since this is a rematch, I was hoping they would do an I Quit Match or Submission Match. Even though is a regular one on one I still think this will be a great match. I’ve grown to become a fan of Rusev’s in ring work. His style is very different and sets him apart. I’m not sure how far the Anti-American gimmick is going to run, but the office has faith him and I’m sure they’ll find a way to keep him hot. As I mentioned earlier, WWE plans to elevate the US and IC titles. With Cena needing to get his revenge and with WWE’s plan for the mid card titles, I see Cena winning the title and also being used to main event pay per view and house shows defending the US title.
Sting vs. Triple H
I’m pumped for this match! I’ll always be a Sting mark. Besides the weird voice promo video, this rivalry probably has had the best build. Having Sting on the last two Raws definitely help pick up momentum for this match. I’m surprised that Triple H has gotten much heat on Sting before this match. I think it’s obvious that Sting is winning this one. There’s no way Sting’s first and possibly only WWE match ends in a loss.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns
Brock Lesar re-signing with WWE has definitely breathed new life into this main event. There are now so many potential endings for this match. Whether Reigns wins or lose this will be an opportunity to show the wrestling world he has what it takes to be a top star. My wife is not going to be happy with me, but I’m picking Brock to retain his championship. After what should be a hard fought battle, will be the perfect opportunity for Rollins to finally cash in his money in the bank and leave Wrestlemania as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
