It has been a rough year for the SmackDown Brand on pay-per-view. Clash of Champions 2017 seems to fall in line with the other SmackDown pay-per-views this year. There is nothing about this show that really screams must watch. This card could easily take place on SmackDown. In 2018 WWE really needs to focus on creating compelling must-see pay-per-view cards for the SmackDown brand.
Here are my predictions for Clash of Champions.
Zack Ryder vs. Mojo Rawley
Winner: Mojo Rawley
Why: It’s safe to say nobody really cares about this feud. Mojo needs to get the win here since he just turned heel. WWE creative should also consider completely repackaging him with a new name and look.
Breezango vs. The Bludgeon Brothers
Winners: The Bludgeon Brothers
Why: The Bludgeon Brothers shouldn’t be losing anytime soon. I expect Harper and Rowan to destroy these Breeze and Fandango in quick fashion.
United States Champion Baron Corbin vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler (Triple Threat Match)
Winner: Bobby Roode
Why: Bobby Roode was a top star in NXT. WWE has failed to do anything of significance with him since arriving on the main roster. Personally, I think it was a huge misstep to make him a babyface. Roode has always been a better heel than face. Roode is not a young guy which means WWE needs to capitalize on pushing him right now.
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. The New Day vs. Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable vs. Rusev & Aiden English (Fatal 4-Way Match)
Winners: The Usos
Why: The Usos have been one of the best tag teams this year and have been the foundation for the SmackDown Tag Division. I see the Usos getting the win here and then defending against American Alpha 2.0 or Rusev Day at Royal Rumble.
SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya (Lumberjack Match)
Why: I have a hard time seeing Nattie leaving Clash of Champions with the SmackDown Women’s title. Charlotte retains here, but there’s always the chance that Carmella cashes in the Money in the Bank briefcase. With the distractions from lumberjacks, this is a perfect scenario for her to take advantage and cash in.
Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan as special guest referees)
Winners: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
Why: With the fire stipulation added to this match, I believe it’s pretty clear that Owens and Zayn will win. There is a chance they could lose and then WWE runs an angle with them breaking into the building multiple weeks and trying to earn their jobs back. But I don’t think WWE is going that route. I think the finish will see Daniel Bryan somehow helping Owens and Zayn win.
WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal
Winner: AJ Styles
Why: Jinder never had any business being the WWE Champion. Even after one reign as champion I still believe he has no business being in the WWE title picture. The Jinder experiment has been a complete failure and a waste of WWE programming. It’s to write the final chapter of this failed experiment by having AJ cleanly defeating this man.
